Work In Progress

Thought I'd share with you a 16 x 20 canvas work in progress. She's a princess that will be holding a cute frog, there will be more sky put in (using scrapbook paper), a tree to the left and a castle up on the hill to the right.
I have lots more shading and tweaking to do but this is where I'm at so far.

I get asked every fall to donate a piece to the Farmer's Bowl auction. I get discouraged because people will pay $350 for a $300 gift certificate somewhere and not always appreciate the time and effort put into art. I don't know at this point if I'll donate this or put it on etsy. I keep thinking that people will possibly bid on this for a child or grandchild?

I have much more blending to do on her face. Funny how I can miss that sometimes until I see a photo! Is anyone else like that?

Her dress is painted and then I added white rub-on transfers.......turned out cute I think :)

I'm headed to Grand Forks today to get some supplies and visit the Farmer's market. FUN!!

She is so beautiful... I love how you are making the background with the pieces of paper! It is sad that more people don't appreciate what is put into art :( Getting supplies today... FUN!!

Hi Darla, gosh she's so beautiful already! I love her the way she is and can't wait to see her finished, it's going to be gorgeous!
I believe you're right about the auction and Etsy, someone at the auction may not really feel the work, the beauty and all your efforts and talent that is put into this as much as a person that may purchase this from Etsy for their daughter, grand-daughter, self or as a gift for a sister or a special friend!
She's just beautiful though so far and I can't even imagine how much more detailed and fabulous she'll be when you're finished! Hope you have a great weekend!
Hugs...

Darla, I think she is fabulous! I think charity is a wonderful thing, but I totally know how you feel when people don't appreciate the arts. I've done a couple of showings in my uncultured area and people said things like...interesting, or that just wouldn't go with my house...ugh!
So, I don't know what to tell you, but I do understand.
Follow your heart...xox, Lisa

Hi Darla!
This is just a wonderful piece..
I know when you feel people are not going to think it is worth it, or look at it and say.. "oh how cute".. dont' you just want to stand up and say.. "I know I am"!
laughing.. Im silly tonight..
You must go over to my blog and see my photos from 1960.. I would have been 4.
Cant wait til I see this canvas finished. Hugs, Darlene

This is beautiful, Darla....the colours and paper designs work so well together. I like using white rub-on transfers too.

YES! Every time I think I'm finished a piece, I will photograph it but, once it's on the computer, I can see things I need to fix. I guess it works the same way if you hold the piece in front of a mirror.

I know what you mean. There are A LOT of people out there who don't appreciate all the time and effort an artist puts into their work. Very sad.

Your little princess is beautiful. I can't wait to see more.

I feel the same. People don't appreciate what goes into artwork anymore. It really gets me down sometimes :(

I do the same thing all the time. When I scan my artwork and bring it up on the computer I can see things I need to fix that I couldn't see before.

Darla, what sad news about this lady who lost her hubby. She must be going through so much pain without him.
I can't say anymore I just feel for her so much!
