A sketch & some Maya words of wisdom

Whenever I try to find the image in these textured backgrounds, all my girls seem to be facing in the same direction! Either I'm not looking hard enough or something strange is going on :)
I will try paint her up tonight after I finish a little more on a memory box I'm painting for VernaAnn.

I received this in an email and really wanted to share it with you all!

Maya Angelou

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...
something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a youth she's content to leave behind....
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...
one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ........

a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a feeling of control over her destiny...
how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW....

how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship....

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW....

when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..
that her childhood may not have been perfect....but it's over....

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

what she would and wouldn't do for love or more....
how to live alone.... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. .

whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

where to go...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table..
or a charming Inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing....

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

What she can and can't accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...

**One last thing**
I bought a tripod and my son is going to help me set up and take a video while I paint something! I'm excited to try this, yet somewhat SCARED TO DEATH! I need to know how to edit the video, how to choose music that won't get cut from Youtube, etc. Any tips would be great!

Thanks,
Darla

I love Maya's words of wisdom and so true.

Your painting is looking great! Funny you noticed that about the direction your girls face because I noticed that on a lot of my paintings over the years too. Even in most of my bird paintings, they all faced the one direction. I had to make a conscious effort to change it though it did make me wonder WHY it seemed to just happen that way in the first place? I wonder if that's a common trait with other artists?

Dearest Darla, I zoint (stole) your e-mail to send to a friend. I knew you wouldn't mind, right? Are you part of Inspiration Avenue now? That is terrific :)
You are an excellent choice for their team!

Gotta love Maya Angelou! She has it all figured out! Now if we could just follow her advice ~ some is easy, some not so much.

I do love your latest painting, and actually all of your work. You're so talented!
