A treasury and a question for you?

Thank you to Tins and Treasures for including my witch in her treasury!
It's always an honor♥

Now my question.......in your opinion, are you more inclined to purchase functional art verses display art? You know......an art pendant, painted glassware, a painted tote or painted hand towels etc. verses a canvas that just sits there? I love painting.......but I like seeing things go to a new home too so I guess I'm wondering how I can combine both here.

What's your experience, what do you think? :)
Thanks!
Darla

Hello~

In my opinion, I like both. However, it really depends on what it is. But, I prefer functional art or art that is small enough to use in a vignette of some sort. (I'm getting ready to post pictures of my bedroom-having just moved and all...take a peek and tell me what you think)

Congratulations on the treasury!
In answer to your question about art, I rarely buy original art pieces, either because I feel I could make it myself or because I can't afford it.
I buy quite a lot of prints though and have them in pretty frames all over my house, the other thing I buy a lot of is anything that combines art with fabric, because I am appalling at sewing and love the combination of the 2 together, art dolls, mini quilts etc
I also love to buy little painted polymer clay sculptures and painted wooden dolls/houses etc
I display these all over my house!

I'm sure that's not a lot of help for you but I tried ;)

congratulations! That's great! As for art....I purchase both kinds...it just depends on how much I love the piece. I dont discriminate ;)

For me it would definitely be a painting. Not a functional item.

Your work is amazing and the more people that see it the more people that will want it.

Mystele's class has been fantastic, we just really do our own thing and it's not a case of painting like Mystele it's about finding our own way!

I'll go sign up for the swap now ;)

Great question! I know I would like to know the answer.

I usually buy functional art because I can't really afford formal art. Maybe someday I will be able to fill my house with paintings that I haven't painted.

Congrats on the treasury!

As long as it really speaks to me... I have to LOVE it... it doesn't matter what kind of piece it is. I know where you are coming from... sales of 'canvas type' of art seems low... hoping it picks up soon!!

Congratulations Darla on the Treasury!!!!! That is so exciting!

I, myself, prefer functional art, and you know why? Because I don't have to dust it! Hahahahaaaaa! If it's a bag or something like that - it doesn't have to be dusted! YIpeee!

Hi Darla,
Hm, this is an interesting question and great to know others responses!
OK, Here is my opinion-
Myself, I think functional art sells more for low to medium income earners. That way, it can be justified.
The high income earners can afford to pay for art to sit on a wall!
I am not in the high income earner bracket, so I paint my own art for the walls at my house, oh and "painting is my passion".

Gosh, I'm not sure if this is the answer you're looking for.
Hugs,
Anna

Yeay!! Great Treasury! To answer you question, I like both! I am trying to figure that one out for my Etsy shop with the cobwebs hanging all around! I think I hear crickets too.

I'm more likely to purchase a canvas for my wall! But, I do love little handmade statues and all that.

Darla, this is a great idea. I like little trinket boxes, you can place you art prints of them. We don't have the items to buy where I live for these type of art and crafts. If you can and have time, totally try some. They will look awsome and hopefully you will sell these along side you art!
What would you like to make?
Thank you for your lovely message Darla!

Hi Darla, I like both but I have been thinking along the same lines as you lately. I wanted to use my paintings for something more as it seemed a shame for them to just sit there after I had put so much work into them. So I have been experimenting in turning my art into pendants. I'll be posting my creations sometime this weekend so that might give you some ideas too!
