Are you ready for a video?????

OH. MY GOD!
I painted for an hour and spent at least 8 hours trying to teach myself how to edit the video. I have an even greater respect and admiration for all of you who share your talents on youtube!!!!

I have to say......painting it was fun! I'm hoping to do another fairly soon so I don't forget the whole editing part. I started with my Flip software which I found out wasn't so great. Moved on over to Windows Movie Maker which doesn't take flip files (grrrrrrrrrrr) so off to youtube for help!

I ended up downloading a free version of video pad which converts my flip videos to wmv files and was able to do it all there. I'm frustrated just typing all this again! haha

Anyway, here's my first painting video. Hope you enjoy :)

I used watered down acrylics on watercolor paper.
G'night

Yes, I DID enjoy it very much!! I can never get enough of the painting videos, and I'm sure you'll get quicker at the editing--remember practice, practice, pratice ;) Thank you so much for this video!

OMG Darla I'm so excited you made a video!! It's awesome! I really loved watching the portrait come together.

I know what you mean about video editing, it can be SO frustrating. I like Windows Movie Maker (the one that comes with Windows XP, the one that comes with Win7 is really bad!). I think you did a great job with the editing despite the obstacles. Hopefully it will be easier next time!

Darla this is great! I really enjoyed watching you paint and seeing her come to life! Do you have to treat your watercolor paper with gesso? I have used canvas paper and it bubbles up and bends I suppose from the water and paint. How do you handle that?

Love it! And she is beautiful! :)

Thank you everyone!
Diane, I don't put gesso on the watercolor paper, the colors wouldn't flow as well. The paper does bend and get a little out of shape but you can adhere it to a canvas or wood with gel medium if you like. Also, I just seal the design, then spritz the back side with water and lay it upside down flat, cover it with something heavy and it dries flat. Hope that helps?

OOOPS! I meant to direct my answer to Cathy..so sorry!

darla, this was so much fun to watch. a couple of questions, did you use watercolor only or did you use some acrylics? and the music you posted with your video had the "click here to buy" on youtube. how did you set that up or did you just put your music on there and youtube did that for you? i've used two nora jones songs for mine and i've wondered how to convert it to the way yours is so people can buy the songwriters music. thanks again!

Thanks Kelly....I used all acrylics. I just really wet my brush and they act more like watercolors :)
As for the music, youtube did that so it must be something they do with certain artists? I wish I knew how to find out what music will be ok. I just have to cross my fingers and hope it goes well. Do you know if there's a listing anywhere?

hi darla,

no, i did a lot of research because i was afraid of copyright laws, but there isn't any good information out there. i guess it is hit and miss who's music they will mute and who they just put for sale. i like the idea of them just linking to buy the music, really, it's good for the artist to hopefully sell more. with nora jones they didn't mute or put for sale, but it's some of her older work. i guess it's just a guessing game for us!

thanks for joining in on the challenge too! great job!

You CAN do it all!
Maybe you should make a video on how to edit videos, I don't have a clue.
Beautiful job, on both the painting and the video! Thank you.
