Oops...another lesson learned

PLAN AHEAD!
I was playing around with a 9 x 12 piece of hard board and wanted to practice clouds, trees, etc.
I made my tree too big and there wasn't enough room to do the whole tree! ha!
I practiced a little more with highlights and I see where I can enhance those on the tree trunk a little more now but thought I'd share anyway.

p.s. NOT liking clouds the way I tried them. I think I'll head to the University of Youtube to learn other techniques :)

Have a great Tuesday!

Darla I love this!! I think it looks good with the top cropped off the tree. I don't think it looks like a mistake. And the clouds are great! I love how you use light in your work! Color palette is great as always!

Nice work! :)

I love that the tree is so big..like in life..you sometimes don't see the "whole" picture :-)

And I love the University of YouTube!

Oh Darla that is perfect as it is, I wouldn't change it. It has the feel of a day that may turn to rain, the tree being cropped the way it is adds a certain interest to the composition. I think it is beautiful!

I love it that your tree doesn't "fit" into the picture.

And I really like the clouds,

I don't think it looks so bad at all, in fact, it's quite good! however, I do understand that as the artist, your opinion is the one that matters most. Each so called 'mistake' helps us learn how to be better next time.
ps- love your painting of the girl in your previous post. It has a moody, reflective feel to it

Hi Darla,
This piece is coming along nicely.

Oh to funny, I participated in a workshop on Sunday and we painted clouds.
We used an old 1/2", damp flat brush, started swirling round in circles and faded out at the bottom. I'd be happy to give you further instructions if you like!
Happy painting,
Hugs,
Anna

It's lovely, Darla! It's actually better that the foreground tree goes outside of the 'frame' because it adds to the impression of it being in the foreground giving a better sense of distance. I think you did an excellent job with the fences too. IF I had to say anything wasn't quite right...and this is not a criticism as it's still looks great as it is...but I would say that it may have looked a little better if the large fluffy cloud closest to the horizon had been left out of the scene. I love, love, LOVE how you cast-shadowed the foreground! YouTube is such a fabulous Uni!

OOh, I love your work! I'm visiting from my own blog where I found you had followed me! So glad you found me first because I'm in love with what I've found here. You are so good at combining whimsical and a sense of realism. Seriously, i can't wait to spend more time looking at your work. I'm not only following but I've added your blog to my "best of" folder where I keep the blogs I REALLY love. :o)
